Credit insurance - is it right with your credit card offer?

While insurance usually isn't a topic that most people like to talk about, it is often a necessity that needs talking about! Most people think of car insurance and expensive health and medical coverage when they think about the different types of insurances on the market. However, there are a number of people who are starting to see the benefits of something called credit insurance (otherwise known as credit protection). This is an affordable solution to the high charging insurance competitors.

What is credit insurance and how can it influence my financial life? Credit insurance is basically a coverage that comes along with many good credit cards and many instant approval credit cards. The insurance usually covers your minimum payments if something goes wrong (usually 2-3% of your monthly bill). In the case of death, your unsecured credit card debt would be paid in full. Now it doesn't matter if you're looking for a student credit card, a small business credit card or a ‘normal credit card'- you can get one with an insurance policy that will save you money!

At its core, credit protection was developed with the consumer in mind. Any financial hardships that come your way should be battled with the credit protection plans that are available with many online credit card applications. Get back on your feet fast with a credit protection plan!

The types of credit protection plans

Just like anything else in life, there are different forms of credit protection - you get the option! The two main forms of the plans are: credit disability and credit life. Here's a closer look:

  • Credit disability: Credit disability is a popular choice among consumers when they apply for a credit card because it covers real live instances that can come up. For example, it will pay off your loan payments so you won't suffer and it will cover your credit card's minimum payments until you can get back on your feet financially.
  • Credit life: Credit life insurance is a great choice in the unfortunate case of death. If the family's financial provider dies unexpectedly, the family will have all of their debt wiped out if they are under this protection.

How does the credit insurance program work?

Credit insurance works by the combining of two separate entities- your credit card company and the insurance providers. The cost of your insurance policy is then simply added to your monthly bill (usually just a few dollars per month) and you don't have to think twice about it! All the good credit cards will offer you a protection plan and many online credit card applications ask you if you are interested. Credit protection is usually sold per $100 on your monthly bill.

The good and the bad of credit insurance

Before you decide for good whether one of these instant approval credit cards with credit protection is right for you, you should examine the good and the bad that comes with the cards. Some of the good things behind these cards are:

  • You don't need a physical exam before partaking in a health protection plan (like many insurance policies make sure you do!)
  • You can buy up to the exact amount of insurance you need/ want
  • You will be given the same insurance plan no matter how old you are, what job you work at or whether you are male or female

Some of the bad things about getting a protection plan when you apply online for a card:

  • It can be pretty expensive, especially if you are buying per $100 on your credit card bill
  • There are limits on how long the insurance will pay for your minimum payments and/ or your medical bills
  • There are some restrictions that may apply when you search for credit cards such as childbirth, elective surgery and unemployment (during seasonal times)

Is a credit insurance plan right for you and your family?

If you're deliberating over whether to get this plan or to wait it out, you should probably just go ahead and purchase an insurance plan through your credit card provider. Many people hate the fact that they are paying for insurance - until something happens! Be smart; get a rewards credit card attached to your credit protection plan so it seems as if you are paying very little in premiums!

Credit insurance may be good for some people but my friend is sure that he will never face the situation when insurance can help. It depends on a person.
